3. Parça 'Warum? ' (Niçin?) Schumann'ı uzun zamandır uğraştıran bir sorudur... Schneider ise bu zarif 'Niçin'i şöyle yorumlar: 'Belki bu, Schumann'ın genç bayan Laidlow'a yönelttiği ya da onun besteciye sorduğu bir sorudur... O da genç kıza küçük bir şaheserle, şiirsel düş kırıklığıyla yüklü, özlemin gölgesinde saklanan bu müzikle cevap veriyor... Bu basit 'Niçin? ' sözcüğü pek çok soru sorabilir: Niçin tanıştık? Niçin ben büyüleyici etkinize yenildim? Niçin Rosenthal'daki günler böyle çabuk geçti? '... 2/4'lük ölçüde, ağır ve yumuşak (Langsam und zart) çalınması istenen 'Niçin? ' sanat dolu bir çokseslilikle ve Schumann'da daha önce görülmeyen duygusal bir armoniyle, şiirsel bir resim olarak gerçekleşir...
