The point for me is not that a Muslim, a Black person, or a person with a foreign background wins an election in the USA or the EU. Rather, it is that we are still pleasantly surprised when they do, because of the reality that even in countries whose leaders have preached 'democracy' for years, their words and actions in practice remain discriminatory.
